Ask virtually any musician about how much they earn from their music and they’ll tell you the same thing – nothing. To earn minimum wage from Spotify streams you have to get something like 567,000 per month. Minimum wage !!!! That doesn’t take into account the cost of recording or even the guitar strings. Meanwhile, Spotify ‘s owners are billionaires. And that doesn’t take into account Spotify’s ethical stance which, let’s be generous, is dubious to say the least.
Artists all over the world are crying out for a platform that puts them first, rewards them for the streams they generate and gives them some control rather than make billionaires of a handful of people.
I’ve recently come across Subvert. Could this be the platform artists have been crying out for? Honestly, I don’t know, but it might just be. I’m not here to do a sales job on their behalf but I am interested to hear what other artists think of their proposal.
