I had the huge pleasure of seeing The Beatles tribute band Across The Universe 66-70 in Liverpool last night.
I’m not normally a fan of tribute bands, the idea of grown-ups dressing up to try and look like someone else, mimicking their supposed mannerisms and asking an audience to suspend belief for an hour or two isn’t really my idea of a good night out. Across The Universe don’t do that, they just play the songs – brilliantly.
In addition to the eight members of Across The Universe they also had a horn section and a string section. Each and every one of them earnt their money last night. The musicianship was absolutely first class, the vocals spot on and a tremendous night was had by everyone.
When you watch and hear a band as talented as this play the songs you know intimately you realise again just how talented The Beatles actually were. Yes, I’m a huge Beatles fan, I know these songs inside and out, every little nuance and trick and Across The Universe pulled them all off in a blistering show.
I cannot recommend them highly enough, if you get the chance to see Across The Universe grab it with both hands and get ready for a terrific night out,
