In fact, my music is distributed across streaming services throughout the world, which still feels slightly extraordinary when I stop to think about it.
A song can be written and recorded here, uploaded once, and then listened to by somebody thousands of miles away. That is one of the genuinely remarkable things about making music now.
Of course, there is another side to streaming.
The amount paid to independent musicians for each individual play is tiny. Nobody is retiring early because a few more people pressed play on one of their songs.
But that does not mean those plays are unimportant.
Quite the opposite.
Every play means somebody chose to spend a few minutes listening to something I made. Every save means somebody thought it was worth hearing again. Every follow means somebody is interested enough to want to know what I release next.
For an independent musician, those things matter far more than the fractions of a penny attached to an individual stream.
Making music takes time. Recording it takes time. Finishing it properly takes time. Then there is the effort of getting it out into the world and hoping that, somewhere amongst the millions of other songs available, somebody actually finds it.
When that happens, it matters. So if you already listen to my music, thank you. If you have not listened for a while, have another look. There may be songs you have missed.
And if you have never listened before, the Sean Kearns Songs playlist on Spotify is as good a place as any to start.
Use whichever streaming service you prefer. Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, SoundCloud or anything else that carries my music. The platform really does not matter to me.
The listening does.
Every play counts.
