What a musical year it’s been. I’ve released five singles and an album, had my voice altered and closed in on 500,000 Spotify streams.
The year started with still having voice issues and only being able to sing occasionally and not for very long when I could sing. For someone who had never had any voice issues previously it was a shock and there were times when I honestly thought I’d never be able to properly sing again.
Gradually throughout the year I was able to sing more and for longer but I’m still prone to breaking down in a coughing fit and I feel that my voice has changed. The voice change might also be an age thing but I feel it’s largely related to the coughing and throat issues I’ve had since 2021.
In much better news I did release five singles this year, including the song that would become my most streamed song ever, Kiss Me Goodnight. The feedback I’ve had to that song in particular has been absolutely wonderful and I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to comment on my music throughout the year.
In September I released my second album, Collateral. The album consisted of ten songs, eight of which I’d already released as singles so there was just two new tracks on the album.
The whole musical landscape has changed over the years and these days it’s the single that is king. The art of putting together an album has gone and it will be a long time before it returns, if ever. Our collective attention span seems to have reverted to the three minute single which to my generation is a shame. The LP was king, in all it’s 12″ vinyl glory complete with fold-out packaging, lyrics and that evocative smell. Hey-ho.
My final single release of 2023 was Just To Be With You which is destined to also be a track on my next album, but more news about that later in 2024.
Meanwhile, the biggest thank you possible to everyone who has listened to my music throughout the year. I cannot believe how many people have listened to my songs and I cannot thank you all enough. Giving up your most precious commodity, your time, to listen to what I’ve created is the greatest gift you can give me and I thank you all.
