I’m not normally a fan of cover versions, especially when the song is such a classic as Jimmy Cliff’s I Can See Clearly Now.

To take a massive worldwide reggae hit and turn it into a stomping rock song shows both imagination and daring but in my opinion the Irish band Hothouse Flowers pull that off with some style.

I saw them perform this song live before the album came out and it’s no exaggeration to say it brought the house down and when lead singer Liam Ó Maonlaí screams ‘take it away’ I defy anyone with a soul not to be moved.

If you’re not a Hothouse Flowers fan then take some time to check them out, you won’t regret it, especially their stunning debut album People.
