I’m not the world’s greatest monarchist but on balance I’d rather have a monarchy than a president as head of state, mainly because of the tradition a monarchy brings.

What I am certain of is that whatever you might think about hereditary entitlement there’s no real doubt that Queen Elizabeth has been a wonderful head of state for the last 70 years. On top of that we here in the UK are having a couple of days holiday to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, which is great news.

So here’s to Her Majesty, thank you for all your hard work, dedication and service.
