With the imminent release of my own vinyl record I thought it would be fun to showcase some of the vinyl I’ve got in my own collection. Maybe some of the more obscure stuff, maybe some of the biggest sellers, who knows? It will just be fun sharing some of this vinyl music with you.
For no reason I can explain let’s start with the incredibly talented Dea Matrona. I started watching YouTube videos of Orláith Forsythe and Mollie McGinn several years ago when they were busking on the streets of Belfast. Right from the off it was clear that they are superb musicians as they steamed their way through classics like Oh Well and Whole Lotta Love, swapping their instruments around and demanding attention both from passers by and the YouTube viewer.
I saw them in concert a couple of years ago and they were very good. I saw them again late last year and they were simply exceptional. The growth in their music, their stagecraft and their ability to put on a show was marked. If you get a chance to see them live grab it, take your friends along and go and have a great night out.
It was that night that I bought their debut album For Your Sins from their merch stand. They spent an age talking to fans, signing everything put in front of them and clearly having a great time. For Your Sins is a belter of an album. It’s amazing to think that this is their debut album. They have their second album coming out later this year and I can’t wait to hear it.
Meanwhile, get your ears into Dea Matrona, you’re going to love them.
