The song I’m talking about is my song Just To Be With You. You can’t listen to it on Spotify. There was a time when you could listen to it on Spotify and lots of people did and then Spotify decided to take it down.
The excuse I was given by Spotify was vague, unsubstantiated and I couldn’t challenge it. They decided that someone was trying to manipulate streams of the song. The fact that it wasn’t me and I hadn’t authorised anyone to do that was irrelevant to Spotify, they couldn’t care less. So they removed Just To Be With You and then they removed two of my other songs The Time Of Your Life and The Ties That Bound Us Close.
Spotify don’t care that I spent countless hours creating the songs, recording the songs, having them professionally produced and once they were released spending hours and hours posting links to them on social media groups and promoting them as widely as I could, all linked to Spotify. They don’t care that I created videos, reels and static posts to promote the songs, they certainly didn’t discuss any of this with me before they took their arbitrary action. Quite why Spotify thinks I would then openly risk falling foul of their regulations is beyond me. It’s not the loss of income that concerns me because, as we all know, we’re paid an absolute pittance per Spotify stream whilst the likes of Spotify owner Daniel Ek becomes a multi-billionaire and his company spends a king’s ransom sponsoring Barcelona F.C., it’s the lack of opportunity to share my art with as many people as possible that I find upsetting.
Major record labels and even Spotify itself manipulate music, physical products and streams all the time. At no point did Spotify provide any evidence for their claims or decision and there was no right of reply or ability to challenge their action. The songs are still available on all the other streaming services, just not on Spotify.
