I didn’t start writing songs to become rich and famous. Well, not really. When I was 16 or 17 or even 18 I might have harboured some vague notion that I would be plucked from obscurity and catapulted to international stardom, but let’s get real, that was never going to happen.

Certainly by the time I released my first commercially available music in 2021 I knew for absolute certainty that I was never going to make a living out of my music. And guess that? I was 100% right about that.

The simple fact is that to earn just the minimum wage I would have to generate 567,000 streams each and every month. That’s minimum wage – and it doesn’t take into account any costs such as recording time, instruments, production or even guitar strings. It was never going to happen and lo and behold that’s exactly what’s happened. There’s never been a month when I’ve come remotely close to earning minimum wage from my music.

Like hundreds of thousands, probably millions, of other songwriters and musicians throughout the world I release music knowing full well it will cost me money and will be heard by very few people. Streaming services like Spotify make their owners hugely rich, record companies continue to pile up cash like there’s no tomorrow and consumers have never had so much access to music for so little money. And meanwhile the songwriters and musicians lose money releasing their art.

And now AI, using our talent as it’s free reference point, will write and perform an infinite number and variety of music without the prompter being required to have any musical ability whatsoever.

I know all this. But, apart from a few glorious teen years, I never expected to earn anything approaching a living from my music. I write and record music because I can, because in some innate way I have to and because of the joy it gives me. The fact that modern technology gives me the ability to record my music to a virtually professional level continues to delight and amaze me. And all I want in addition to this if for as many people as possible to hear my songs and hopefully spend a few minutes of their life enjoying them.

I will continue to make my music available to stream, you can also buy it on CD and I have plans to release it on vinyl shortly but you can listen to everything I’ve recorded and released completely free on this website. I’d love you to buy my CDs and to stream my music 24/7. Most of all I’d like you to take a listen to it and that’s why it’s all available on this website completely free.
